Chopping Mall is the perfect mix of comedy, cheesiness, dated effects, and action.
The gratuitous gun slinging versus the dated robots is more fun than makes any sense - this film is nicely spirited and doesn't let up. I'm curious about the robot effects; did they make them remote control or pull them around with strings? |

probably jim wynorski's best film. A favorite 80s cheese fest of mine. The film kinda defy's a horror sub-genre classification. People want to call it a slasher film but i am not sure it fits.
The vestron blu ray is very nice btw |

I don't get the love for Chopping Mall. At ALL. It's neither so bad as to be funny, nor so good as to be worth watching. It was for me tonight as it was for me 30 years ago when I first saw it--a sub-par time waster. It's not that I dislike it...but I certainly can't say that I like it, either. It does have a pretty good cast for this sort of thing, however.

I watched it yesterday for the first time, and I had a lot of fun. As far as horror movies go, it's not great. And if I saw it back in 1986, I probably would have thought it was sub-par. But watching it now, I loved all the 80's nostalgia. The shopping mall, the clothes, the cheesy special effects, and just the overall feel of the movie. I really enjoyed it.
I followed it up with Death Spa. Another sub-par movie. But as a goofy 80's horror flick, it was fun to watch. |

Cheesy '80s nostalgia fun as others have noted. Gotta love the "safe" lasers that can cut through steel. :lol: It was like an unofficial sequel to Kelli Maroney's character in Night of the Coment (Nice shot! Dad's a marine.) along with cameos by Paul Bartel and Mary Woronov from Eating Raoul. :up:

I really enjoyed this and find it hard to believe that I never saw it before in my VHS rental days. I always remember the cover art but can't remember ever actually renting it.
Great cast of who's who of random B movies at the time. I nearly recognized everyone in it from something else of that time. Lots of humor, some nice gratuitous nudity and enjoyable action. This one is a keeper. |

It was a treat seeing this cheesefest in widescreen and HD. I've always felt the effects were somewhat impressive considering this was Corman-produced.
Never realized until catching the Blu-ray featurette the Killbots were inspired by the robots from Gog, and now I can't unsee it: https://forgottenfilmcast.files.word...2/05/gog-4.png Also found it amusing that John Terlesky who played a total Bruce Campbell knockoff in Wynorski's Deathstalker II said TDTESS's "Klaatu barada nikto" about 7 years before Bruce in AOD.

Short Circuit turns homicidal in an 80's mall. Cheesy movie horror with 80's style violence and nudity. The soundtrack sounded like an 80's video game on a maddening loop. This is a rewatch for me. Movie seemed better on my first watch. I actually rated it a 86/100 on my first watch a few years ago. My second watch, I would not rate it as high, but I came into this movie knowing it was a dumb fun movie. Got this on Lionsgate 8 Movie Horror collection dvd for like $5 at Wally World few years ago. Picture is Full-screen with grainy picture because it's compressed to fit 4 movies on one disc.

Chopping Mall (1986) Only in the 80s could a film like Chopping Mall be made. A local shopping mall installs a state of the art security system that includes patrolling robots designed to deter and apprehend criminals. Why the robots are equipped with GI Joe laser guns isn't properly explained, but if you're watching a movie called Chopping Mall, you're probably prepared to just roll with it. A group of friends that work in the mall decide to stay after hours to do the types of things young people like to do: sex, booze, and party on furniture that doesn't belong to them. Things are going well, before a lightning storm causes the robots to malfunction and kill everybody. At just 77 minutes, this is a breezy and fun flick from Jim Wynorski. It's dated, but in a good way. Nowadays we just buy things on Amazon, but there used to be a time when we had to go to a shopping mall to be good consumers. This movie has everything you'd expect, eye candy, big hair, vapid characters, and great kills. The robots are programmed to read employee IDs and let workers continue on their way safely, but they just ended up killing everybody, causing me to chant human lives matter during the many kill scenes. I kept thinking I had seen this movie before, but once I started watching it, I realized I never had. Glad I finally got a chance to view it. A fun movie that doesn't take itself too seriously. I loved all the cameos and the total 80s-ness of it all. While it's definitely pricey, the Blu-ray looks great.
