These "October Horror Movie Challenge" threads are for the discussion of the films in the 31 FILM SUBSET list.

The plan is for everyone to watch this film on the October day in the thread title, and to start discussing it the morning of the following day.
You may start discussion early if you want, but the preferred plan is for this to be as much of a group exercise as possible, with all of us viewing it "together" and discussing after.

Of course, you are totally encouraged to participate in these threads even if you haven't watched the movie on the designated day.
Even if you haven't watched it in years, or are not participating in the Horror Challenge, please feel free to chime in.

Spoiler tags aren't always used in here, so if you have yet to see the film BEWARE OF POSSIBLE SPOILERS.

How's it screwed up? The one that's broken into six parts looked like it was in okay shape, although I only spot-checked it.

They screwed up the aspect ratio. The preview image is fine. But when you play the video everything is squished.

I'm not seeing the squishing, Big Dave--the aspect ratio looks to be right at 1.85:1 and, at 4:20 or so in the clip you linked to, the usher's flashlight looks to be perfectly round.

I don't know what you're seeing. But here's what I'm seeing:

I see the same thing on my PC, iPad and Roku. And if you look at the Youtube comments, other people have mentioned the screwed up aspect ratio.

Wait...is this a documentary basically of just all the scary scenes in movie history? That's it? Not a real movie???

It's a pseudo documentary of the best horror movie scenes up until 1984.

Donald Pleasance and Nancy Allen are the hosts and they introduce all the scenes. I say pseudo because there is some really corny acted back drop scenes in the movie theater where Pleasance and Allen are at.

Anyone else want to chime in? Are you seeing the correct aspect ratio or the squashed video?

Well, if anyone wants a more satisfying presentation, check your Walmart bins for the Halloween II BD (Non-Rob Zombie version) This documentary is included in that disc.

I've actually thought of getting the Universal release of Halloween II for this despite the fact that I already own two copies of the Scream Factory Blu-ray.

It's like "That's Entertainment!" for horror movies. The YouTube clip is showing squashed on my end. Anyone know if that Halloween II Blu-Ray that includes it is out of print or not?

Re: "Terror in the Aisles" Reviews/Discussion - 2015 Horror Challenge: Day 22

I watched this a couple of years back. Here was my review:

100.)
Terror In The Aisles (1984) (Blu-Ray)*
My Thoughts: Arg, 100 was a clip show, typical. Love the narrators: Dr Loomis and Lois from RoboCop. But this is less of a documentary than it is just an excuse to show the best parts of 80's thrillers/horror films. It was a fun clip show yes but either you have seen the material or it ruins a movie for you. Also I think I recognize some of the actors in the audience....?

My thoughts exactly. Either I'm going to rewatch the same scenes over or ruin a movie or two I haven't seen =/

It's still in print and a recent addition to the Wal-Mart $7.88 bin.

Highly recommend not watching this on YouTube since the BD version of Halloween II has an excellent transfer.

Also, there is a TV cut version of this film that has different film clips in some sequences. That one is out there, but you'll have to do some hunting online to find it.

Beware, if you're not up on your horror films, you could be in for some spoilers.

This was a major theatrical release in '84 and it fits both the themes of Halloween and of "movies set in theatres". Disney used to air clip shows around Halloween of their greatest villains. It's a good title for a casual get together and it kind of breaks up the challenge a bit, since it's fun to watch and you might get some ideas for other titles to watch or re-watch.

Another cool title like this is Film House Fever with an early Steve Buscemi.

Was born in '87 lol. I'll be shocked if it did well in theaters, though. Who would want to get spoiled on things they may not have seen? That's my biggest concern. Anyone have a list of movies they do in this?

I love anthology clip show films like this. I wish they could release It Came From Hollywood on DVD or BD. If they can release Terror in the Aisles, why not that?

Cool- guess I'll be buying Halloween II yet again! Seen that movie so many times now it's not scary anymore, now I just wonder why the hell the hospital was so empty. Got the Halloween box set recently and found they messed up the original 2-channel sound mix; that track is in mono on that disc.

Terror in the Aisles was hyped quite a bit when it came out, and I rented it for my birthday party when the VHS came out. Just have it on CED now.

Read what's printed on the skull in the poster on post #1 (Scratch out Dawn of the Dead & Suspiria, however) But, aside from a few crime oddities like Vice Squad and Nighthawks, it mostly covers what's arguably the greatest decade in horror history, 1972-1982. And don't expect Indie or foreign horrors though. Just big studio releases (Even though Night/Living Dead and Ms. 45 make appearances)

Yeah, I remember running into this one time on the A&E Channel. They basically played the entire climax of Funhouse for what I'm sure was in place of the "Naughty" section of the documentary.

Alright, let me save all of the rest of my talking for the subset day....

Still think you'll enjoy this for movie theatre setting and the delivery by Pleasance. Here are the films mentioned. Some are not horror films, but flicks with suspenseful moments.
