These "October Horror Movie Challenge" threads are for the discussion of the films in the 31 FILM SUBSET list.

The plan is for everyone to watch this film on the October day in the thread title, and to start discussing it the morning of the following day.
You may start discussion early if you want, but the preferred plan is for this to be as much of a group exercise as possible, with all of us viewing it "together" and discussing after.

Of course, you are totally encouraged to participate in these threads even if you haven't watched the movie on the designated day.
Even if you haven't watched it in years, or are not participating in the Horror Challenge, please feel free to chime in.

Spoiler tags are unnecessary in here, so if you have yet to see the film BEWARE OF SPOILERS.

Agggh... got burned watching the wrong 1990 Buried Alive (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099188/?ref_=nv_sr_1)... but that's ok because it wasn't wasted with a corny 1990s vibe. Now looking forward to watching the correct movie, which looks to be even better.

The hair curler murder is the most intense thing I’ve seem all seen all month; had to rewind that to watch it again.

The cavernous sweeping cinematography helps make this movie; I wonder if that was to intentionally counter the buried alive claustrophobia. A lot of the camera angels are framed looking slightly upward giving a weird staring up feel (or sometimes just above eye level). A lot of detail to foreground versus background objects giving a more dreamy vibe. The hallucinatory segments are cool.

Gets a little slow aimless in the middle…

Donald Pleasence is wasted in this, he shows some range as an actor but plays a real dimwit.

I don’t get it, the doctor’s dad walled him in as a sort of therapy/punishment? That just doesn’t make any sense… the father could have just fashioned some form of locked door if necessary or, better still, used

Tacky fashion accessory to save the day!

Flimsiest brick walls of death ever; I love hope condemning and definitive they are early on then at the end the heroine brushes the wall aside like cardboard.

I think the other Buried Alive (1990) was actually a tad less cheesy.

This movie starts out with promise but dissolves into a paint-by-numbers horror flick by the end.

I was getting a definite Reform School Girls vibe in the beginning with the attitudes, clothing and hair!

Unfortunately the movie went in a different direction from that about halfway through and got boring in the process. I was actually enjoying the movie until then.

My rating: **1/2 out of *****

Dammit... so did I. Now to watch that one.

I found this one to be a colossal waste of time. Well, to be precise, it was a 90-minute waste of time. Three things that I've learned in my years of watching horror films:

1. 90% of the movies that Harry Alan Towers has produced are junk.

2. 90% of the movies released by 21st Century Film Corporation are junk.

3. 90% of mainstream movies starring former porn actresses are junk.

This one pulled the hat trick.

I didn't care much for this one. I think a lot of that had to do with the low quality of the youtube stream. I'll try to track this down on DVD and give it another shot.

Another eh. Had some interesting moments, but overall, just couldn't really keep my attention. Maybe if I actually knew the story of Buried Alive? I dunno. This movie just didn't do much for me at all.

Yep, a wasted Pleasance appearance. I was really looking forward to his role, always enjoy his work; but he just didn't have much to work with here.

I just watched that other Buried Alive. It wasn't horrible. I guess it's the film the recent Ryan Reynolds version was a remake of. I liked his version much better.
