Re: "I Sell the Dead" Reviews/Discussion - 2012 Horror Challenge: Day 24
I'm trying to count the number of obnoxiously fake accents in I Sell the Dead but I don't have that many fingers.
It's full of potential but I want to like I Sell the Dead more than I do. The characters don't seem compelling for such as character driven film; maybe there's too much emphasis on talking heads despite some crazy antics (although spirited much comes across as scattered). The comic book style is nice. If only the entire film could have been as rich and well paced as the last half hour.

While I agree with your points, I felt like the film was pretty good and found it to be entertaining for the most part, but I wasn't in love with the humor just found it likeable due to the fact that it was different than what I have seen before. I do agree that the end part was the highlight and would have been neat to see that tone expanded throughout the whole movie.

I enjoyed it. It was weaker than you might expect on the horror side (The Bodysnatcher, The Flesh and the Fiends and The Doctor and the Devils all beat it, surprising because they are all light on the supernatural aspects and not gory), but the comedy wasn't bad and it respected the horror genre.

I thought they did a fairly good job of walking the line between horror and comedy, and the accents didn't seem any worse than most films set in pseudo-England...
There were a couple of possible plot holes that bothered me, though - the suggestion that any number of vampires and zombies were running wild in the country, for one. Also the possibility that the 'Priest' was actually an impartial Priest - although given the circumstances, I suppose it wouldn't have mattered if Monaghan had been suspicious of him.
The noticeably blue-screen ending was at first glance off-putting, but at second glance it was a nice (accidental?) touch harking back to the thousands of good-for-the-time, but ultimately poorly-done special effects in any number of other films.
