DVD Talk review of 'A Rage To Live'
I read Paul Mavis's DVD review of A Rage To Live at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=50956 and...Paul, if you read or re-read John O'Hara's work you will find the tone, substance and period remarkably altered and simplified for the film. The Motion Picture fails to hit any of the marks set by the book. For whatever reason, not one of O'Hara's novels has been turned into a satisfying film. And monkeying with period and social detail is only a part of this problem. A great writer, a lot of mediocre movies.

Well, Barry, as I said in my review, I admire his work. But I disagree that the movies made from his books are mediocre -- they're just different in focus and execution. Pleasures can still be had from them.
