British shows on dvd

I've been looking around at the various British tv shows that we get and I was wondering if I could get some recommendations for some to get from the collectors here? So far I collect Doctor Who,Monty Python and Primeval and I'm trying go get a good sized collection so any recommendations would be very appreciated

Fawlty Towers for sure, plus Mr. Bean and Are You Being Served, if you're into comedies.

I'll second that recommendation for "Fawlty Towers, "Mr. Bean", and "Are You Being Served?", and those for "The Avengers", "The Saint" (sadly OOP), "Secret Agent" (AKA Danger Man), "U.F.O.", and "The Persuaders". I've never seen "Hammer House of Horrors" as I'm not much into horror anthology shows, but it *is* Hammer so...

I'll add:

"Keeping Up Appearances"
"Father Ted" (really more Irish, but still very funny)
"The Vicar of Dibley"
"Chef!"
"Black Books"
"Good Neighbors" (original British name "The Good Life")
"The Thin Blue Line"
"Jeeves and Wooster"
"'Allo 'Allo!"
"Only Fools and Horses"
"One Foot in the Grave"
"Waiting for God"
"Blackadder"
"Red Dwarf"
"Rising Damp"
"Space 1999" (a sequel of sorts to "U.F.O.")
"Open All Hours"
"My Hero"
"Last of the Summer Wine" (the longest running sitcom in history)
"Absolutely Fabulous"
"The Young Ones"
"Men Behaving Badly"
"As Times Goes By"
"To the Manor Born"
"A Fine Romance"
"Whose Line Is It Anyway" (*NO* - Absolutely *NOT* the US version with Drew Carey! - S1 & S2 of the original British version is available in a single box "set" - it's *much* funnier).
"Sapphire and Steel"
"Danger Mouse"
"Cracker"
"Man About the House" (original version of/inspiration for "Three's Company" only much, much better - only 2 seasons in R1 but amazon marketplace vendors have it under $5 shipped for a new copy).

I'd love to include "The Brittas Empire" in that list but it's not yet available in R1 and I believe the R2 disks have gone OOP.

There are only a couple on that list I do not own but I've watched and highly recommend them all.

Quite a few are an aquired taste to many people, myself included. Examples: I didn't care for "Only Fools and Horses" (the top rated sitcom in Britain) the first few episodes I saw but as it went on I liked it more and more. It was the same for "Last of the Summer Wine" as it's a very slow moving affair.

Others, on initial viewing, I thought were just "stupid" - "My Hero" and "Red Dwarf" are the 2 that jump out. Subsequent viewings brought out subtleties and now I consider them to be quite clever and funny.

BEING HUMAN
SKINS
TORCHWOOD

If you can accomodate R2 DVDs, check out the prices at Amazon UK, which are often substantially cheaper than the R1 releases.

Monarch of the Glen
Ballykissangel

Those are my favorites. I also have the Doctor Who's, and if you like off color comedy, there's always Little Britain.
