DVD Talk review of 'The Karate Kid (2010)' (Blu-ray)

I read Brian Orndorf's DVD review of The Karate Kid (2010) at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=45199 and...

I have to agree with you on some points (weaker acting and plot), but nevertheless I still found it a very enjoyable movie. While not on par with the original (highly recommended) I still would rate this remake inbetween recommended and highly recommended.
As for the name of the remake, no blame should go to the filmmakers and movie studio, but rather the American distributor and actually the American public. Internationally this remake was rightly promoted as The Kung Fu Kid, but the distributor over here was afraid the public was too stupid to get the connection to the original and thus lose out financially at the box office and in the home video market. It was hilarious to see Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith in behind the scenes outtakes (not available on the BD/DVD, but WAS available briefly online before the movie hit theaters) ask if they should refer to the movie as karate kid or kung fu kid when they were being interviewed in various places around the world.
