These "October Horror Movie Challenge" threads are for the discussion of the films in the 31 Films in 31 Days Subset.

Main Discussion Thread | The List Thread

The plan is for everyone to watch this film on the October day in the thread title, and to start discussing it the morning of the following day.
You may start discussion early if you want, but the preferred plan is for this to be as much of a group exercise as possible, with all of us viewing it "together" and discussing after.

Of course, you are totally encouraged to participate in these threads even if you haven't watched the movie on the designated day.
Even if you haven't watched it in years, or are not participating in the Horror Challenge, please feel free to chime in.

Spoiler tags are unnecessary in these discussion threads, so if you have yet to see the film BEWARE OF SPOILERS.

It's not on the list but I caught Buried and think it should count. Well worth checking out.

Still need to finish like 20 films before Monday for OCD reasons, and now see that the subset list compels me to leave the house and cut into that schedule. You're killing me Chad!

I've already spent more time in the theater this month than the last year combined, but I guess I'll go see that Saw crap.

Paranormal Activity 2 - So-so sequel to the first film. I didn't get anywhere near the sense of dread from this one that I did from its predecessor, although I did visibly jump at least twice. I found it quite clever in its way of linking up to the first film, however. If you liked the first one, you'll probably like this one at least some; if you didn't find the first one scary, you'll be bored for ninety minutes.

I just got back from this and pretty much agree with all of that. Nice linking, a couple good jumps, great to see Katy (?) again, interesting, but not really scary. I had a bit of that sense of dread, but only because the baby was involved.

I'll probably pick it up for a couple bucks someday and watch it at least once more.

Paranoid Activity 2 got absurd when their fidelity to the "found footage" motif had characters bring handheld cameras to record the surveillance camera playback.

Considering the lackluster theatrical genre exhibits I think the Paranormal Activity is a step in the right direction in a field of teen vampire or 'torture porn' flicks.

Paranormal Activity 2 is like that hour and a half wait in line at the amusement park, hoping that the three minute roller coaster ride is going to be worth it. Thankfully it was, but you still spent an hour and a half waiting for the three minute ride. Katie Featherston's return gives us the two biggest reasons to endure the wait. ;)

For me:

I mentioned at the DVD-thread that I was skeptical about watching this movie with an organ instead of an orchestra, so here's the results:

The Good-I had no problems with the organ whatsoever. The pianist said the organ was made in '77 and had plenty of tricks (Sound FX) up it's sleeve (Which certainly made things speed by unnoticably) The pianist made "Grin Grinning Ghosts" as The Phantom's theme (In case you don't know, GGG is the theme song for The Haunted Mansion) and he teased the crowd by playing Webber's theme songs in the overture.
An opera singer was brought in to sing Christine's parts (Did a great job, but the synching on two of the three songs could've been better prepared) Pretty good crowd reactions too. There's more humor in this than I always thought (Raoul & The Detective's cautious "Hand-stances" got great laughs from the crowd & myself)

The Bad-Ugh. Primitive print used. The Masquerade Ball was red-tinted. A huge bummer for me because this was mostly what I wanted to see on the big screen.

The Ugly-ERIK!

Wife wasn't interested in most of what was playing, so we opted for RE: Afterlife in 2D. It was a lot of fun, but the story execution was pretty terrible, and not really any plot. Not that I expect much from RE, but I expect a little more, at least.
