Recommend Just One Obscure, but Essential Release
We all have a list of favorite films and TV shows that others are likely to have seen or at least heard of, but if you were asked to recommend just one film or TV show available on DVD or BR that someone was unlikely to see but for your recommendation what would it be?
As for me, I'd recommend Artur Aristakisyan's Palms. I saw it 18 months ago, and still think of it frequently. Next? |
Re: Recommend Just One Obscure, but Essential Release
Springboarding off your Second Run recommendation, I'd say František Vláčil's The Valley of the Bees (Údolí včel).

Second Run has a František Vláčil box set coming out, I may have to pick it up. I regret to say I haven't seen any of his films yet.

'Die Nibelungen' by Fritz Lang. 'Siegfreid' and 'Kriemhild's Revenge'.
Probably the greatest achievement of the silent movie era. |

Thomas, I recently had the chance to check Second Run's František Vláčil Collection. I much enjoyed The Valley of the Bees but was knocked out by Marketa Lazarová. Have you had a chance to see that one too?
Dr Mabuse, I've yet to see Die Nibelungen, but hope to do so on Blu-ray next year. |

Thomas, Vláčil's Adelheid is available in the screener pool as a red title. You should check it out and see if you like any better than I did.
