I was with this film right up until intermission, then it went bonkers. All of the Georgia stuff, Mama Jenny and "Funny Hair Joel", the president, the tornado, on and on into oblivion. I was able to tolerate and roll with the punches when hot ass Kajol fell in love with autistic SRK, but the rest was ridiculous.

I agree zombeaner. The second half will test audiences for sure. The strong first half and excellent performances by Shahrukh and Kajol throughout helped push my opinion into positive territory. However, it was definitely not the resounding success it could have been. This would benefit immensely from a bit of snip-snip.

Apparently there is a "Polish" cut that removes almost all of the Georgia stuff that Karan Johar screened in some European countries. I'd be interested in that, seems like it might be more tolerable.

Hey you two, I've been following this film since I saw it in Feb in the theaters. It's done well in the UK, Germany, Middle East, and countries of the Commonwealth (Australia, Canada, etc.) and, of course in India. After the Feb release in No. America, the director's company (Dharma Productions) hired an American editor to edit the heck out of it. DVD released here 8-14-10; I was surprised it wasn't the edited version! Like you two, most N. Americans didn't like the hurricane scenes but the director (Indians call him KJo) has said in interviews that they felt Rizvan had to do something in order to succeed in seeing the Pres. Having an autistic adult cousin, I believe SRK got the high functioning thing down. Many reviewers relished seeing SRK in this role as he usually acts over the top. I have been hopping on the Indian cinema board on imdb.com and it's fun to read the post-ers from throughout the world debate the heck out of all the new cinema coming out of this country, all five film making centers. Like them, I hate the word Bollywood -- maybe it'll go away in ten years or so. . . . and like Rohit, the older formula films are fun to watch, esp. on youtube, 10 minutes at a shot. Like anywhere, India is now churning out crappy films, too. There is a new "formula" with gorgeous people, hip hop fused with Indian dancing, rom-coms -- some flop very, very badly, just like similar H-wood films. [I am droning on]. Last, loved watching this film again the week of the Islam community center brouhaha and Time mag's cover story on Islamaphobia. KJo's view of America's attitude toward American Muslims is interesting, interesting indeed . . . .
