Many of the Shaw Brothers pictures have this far-edge distortion due to the anamorphic lenses used to achieve the Shawscope widescreen image.
It's something that shows up on most of these recently re-issued pictures from the last couple years, and is seemingly unique to the Shawscope process - I don't see it in other widescreen films produced during the same time in other coutries.
