PG or PG-13 movies, something to do with Ancient Greece?

Something I could easily get my hands on @ Best Buy or something, appropriate for 13-16. Can be fictionalized and fun.

Was thinking Clash of the Titans, but not sure how that would play out with today's youth. Would like The Odyssey tv mini-series, but i think too long and since OOP not readily available.

Thanks for suggestions...

I assume this is for school? My recent experience in the classroom indicates many have zero attention spans and a completely lack any frame of reference for anything popular more than three years ago. I had freshman students who didn't know who Mr. T was.

A word of warning, Clash of the Titans does have some notable female nudity in it.

My suggestions:

The 300 Spartans (a huge influence on Frank Miller's "300")
Cleopatra (probably too long for mainstream kids)
O Brother Where Art Thou (great modern day adaptation of The Odyssey)
Hercules In New York

Just kidding on that last one, although I've never met anyone who hasn't found it to be funny, either intentionally or otherwise.

You'd probably consider it "dated" but Jason and the Argonauts is still excellent.

I'd have to say no to Clash of the Titans. Not because it's "dated", but 9 years ago when I was in 9th grade we watched it in social studies class for an Ancient Greece lesson. The teacher didn't know there was a shot with a chick riding a horse or whatever it was topless, and freaked out. Turned off the movie and that was that.

Keep in mind just because it's PG or PG-13 doesn't necessarily mean it's school appropriate.

Not only that but anything involved with Ancient Greece or Rome nowadays is sexed up and tries to depict (or not depict) what life was like back then. I think you'd have to go for a more dated film in order to keep things 'safe' or school appropriate.

yeah, i pretty much nixed Clash as it really has no educational value whatsoever and forgot about the aforementioned scene. see we have a couple days to kill bc we are way ahead for mid-term.

i made up a lesson and assignment for "The 300 Spartans" and going to go with that. it may not be as sexy as the Miller version, but is a little more historically accurate and really shows the garb and culture better and still depicts the Spartans as heroic and strong.

There was a Disney animated movie about Hercules.

"The 300 Spartans" went over pretty well.

so did Frank Miller lift pretty much his entire story, including dialogue from this one?

i couldn't believe when i heard "Our arrows will blot out the sun!"
"Then we will fight in the shade." in the original.

i know this is based on fact, but it can't be too factual and to have similar plot elements and all...
