DVD Talk review of 'Gran Torino'

I read Jason Bailey's DVD review of Gran Torino at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=37354 and...
I don't know why there is all this fuss about Clint Eastwood's performance in this movie. As far as I can tell, he is playing the same old Clint as he does in every movie - scowling, angry, growling at everyone and everthing. Certainly not a movie I would recommend!

Have you seen it? It doesn't seem like you have.

Even if this was true, would it be a bad thing?

Hey! If I want to see a poorly executed, heavy-handed, predictable claptrap on racial diversity, I'll force myself to watch Crash again!

But the car was cool, though.

yeah, i didn't find "gran torino" or clint eastwood's performance in it especially overwhelming and i consider myself to be a pretty big eastwood fan.

Re: DVD Talk review of 'Gran Torino'

Spoiler:
I felt a little "let down" with the ending. Not, in that he was killed, but it was a perfect set up. It would be interesting to get his thoughts on this role...other than the "canned" ones.

His interaction, with the young actors, was incredibly entertaining....his interaction with the young, neighbor girl actor, was especially entertaining, and made the film for me.

Um... do the words "SPOILER WARNING" mean anything to you? Good God.

Ack. My copy of Gran Torino hasn't shipped yet from wbshop.com either, and I had to go and see that.

Spoiler space added.

Re: DVD Talk review of 'Gran Torino'

Eh, finally saw this last week (and yes, I saw the spoiler too, though I assumed the ending would be along those lines). Certainly wasn't horrible, but I don't see what all the fuss was about. The dialogue was pretty cheesy at times, and his interaction with the Hmong girl almost felt like an after-school special.

Also, was that him singing at the end? Hope he didn't retire from acting to work on his debut album....
