DVD Talk review of 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - 2-Disc Special Edition'

I read Brian Orndorf's DVD review of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - 2-Disc Special Edition at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=34912 and...

My blu-ray indi is pausing at 57:10 as if it is scratched but I cannot see any problem on disc. Did I get a bad pressing or have others encountered this unfriendly glitch? I'm running a new PS3 that has performed flawlessly with all my other discs. Thanks for any help.

Probably not a thread that should be attached to Brian's review, however - I have a PS3 and had no problem with my copy of Indy. You probably have a bad disc.

final thoughts

"kingdom" satisfies in a massive way, handing the faithful towering servings of action and archeological surprise, while inching the series into new artistic and visual directions that could conceivably open the door to further, and wholeheartedly welcome, adventures. There's still plenty of fire in indy's belly to explore. It took nearly two decades to get the character back on the screen, but it was worth the wait: "indiana jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull" is an exquisitely crafted, lightning-paced thrill ride; a barnstorming blockbuster effort from steven spielberg, and a return to iconic action hero fortunes for harrison ford.

liar! Liar! Pants on fire!!

He loved the movie. No surprise that he thinks the DVD would be the 3rd coming of Christ. Jesus!

He was actually brought on as a friend of Scott Weinberg who used to write for the site. Sort of a 'Hey I've got a buddy who wants to do movie reviews for DVD Talk." We had a need at that time and so I figured I had little to lose to give him a shot.

Since I am not managing editorial decisions here anymore and have made my opinion clear about weather or not that was a good decision, I don't think it matters much now what I think. But for someone to so mercilessly eviscerate Wall-e and then not hold another movie to very similar standards is absurd.

I generally don't read Brian's reviews anymore, but a little birdie expressed their continued frustration, so I figured I had to check it out.

I'm so happy the only measure of Brian's writing is whether or not I agree with him.

Really? Really!? Some people do. That's why Brian's a valuable member of the review panel. He speaks to a lot of people who don't agree with the majority of reviewers. Not everyone has the same tastes, not everyone enjoyed Wall-E and Juno.

The great thing about DVD Talk is that there is a forum to discuss reviews and the positive and whether you agree or not. The bad side is that often people just resort to "You liked that movie, you suck!" That's not helpful to the reviewer or to the discussion, but it sure seems to make some people feel good.

I agree that it doesn't much matter what you think, but it still may disproportionately matter what you post to a lot of people here. If you can't confine your bashing of Brian to the reviewers forum, can't you at least post criticism that amounts to more than "I can't believe you loved X and hated Y"?

G, what a petty, spineless, useless, and incorrect thing to write. What the hell has happened to you?

Just a cursory glance at Brian's history here shows that you had two years to let him know he wasn't welcome, yet you kept him on the review team. WTF? Add shitty editor to your list of personal achievments.

Instead you make personal attacks. You spam the boards with your awful porn site over and over (take the hint - nobody cares). And you crap all over Brian's tastes when you were personally responsible for some of the worst writing and ratings in the site's history (wasn't it 5 stars for HUSTLE AND FLOW?).

I've lurked for years, and I've grown to appreciate Brian's contributions to this site. He's a good writer and brings a different energy to the site. Plus he has a developed sense of humor, which is more than some of the other critics and members arond here. I'll say it: I'm a fan of Brian. He doesn't deserve grief from the likes of you: a bitter pornographer.

Besides, using the phrase "mercilessly eviscerate" to describe the infamous Wall-E review proves you don't even read the reviews in the first place.

Is the "little birdie" your own self-loathing?

And just as many others would argue that Brian intentionally goes "against the grain" on many releases to get attention, here and elsewhere on the Net.

Not saying that's where I stand...just saying.

This wasn't addressed to me but: No, I wouldn't say that (he writes well) but if his critiques are the polar opposites of mine, why would I continue to read and trust his other reviews? This goes for any reviewer.

There's no accounting for bad taste. It's one thing if it comes from a snarky lurker another when it comes from a 'professional'

Couldn't care less what you think about me. You're entitled to your opinions no matter how misinformed and misguided they may be.

This really isn't acceptable, and since clearly no good will come from leaving this thread open, I'm closing it.
