DVD Talk review of 'A Charlie Brown Christmas'
I read Ian Jane's DVD review of A Charlie Brown Christmas at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=35009 and...
I've seen this special many times and I believe there's an error in the review. As I recall, the tree wasn't the last tree on the lot and that wasn't the reason why it was used for the play. There were plenty of trees and despite Linus warnings, Charlie Brown picked the scraggly thing out himself because he saw something in it and thought it would be perfect for the play. |
Wow, yeah, that's like a big point of the story. Charlie Brown felt sympathy for a kindred spirit, that's why he picked the little one. Charlie Brown knows his place in the world, and he knows he's probably never going to rise above that place, though he keeps on trying. He sees the tree in that same place, and thinks that he can help elevate something else, even if he can't himself.
One more thing (regarding the extra episode) That said, it's an entertaining, if minor, entry in the Peanuts holiday special cannon. |
