I Need a Dvd Fix - Any Shows like The Shield?

I am currently watching The Shield, my 2nd go through in preparation for the new and final season. I've never had a tv show suck me in so strongly that I literally burn through seasons within a day.

I need more. This show is just too short on episodes. Can anyone recommend some good serialized dramas in the same vein? I have watched these series:

Prison Break

Lost

Battlestar Galactica

I haven't checked out Rescue Me or Damages. I've been curious about The Closer. Does it measure up?

The Wire. The first few seasons of Alias were good, too.

Dexter

The Wire.

24?

No, the Closer is not anything like the Shield. Ever, never, never, ever.

Rescue Me, and Nip/Tuck, while not about cops, is about as "edgy"........

The Wire and Intelligence.

I agree with most of the recommendations, especially THE WIRE.

But I strongly urge you to go back a bit further to the show that MOST RESEMBLES your beloved THE SHIELD...and that is HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET. You'll notice the same visual style, and plenty of familiar talent in front of and behind the camera. This show is edgy and ran for 7 seasons on NBC. I recommend getting the full series boxset which gives you the movie and the crossovers with LAW & ORDER (which is a show that HOMICIDE had little in common with otherwise).

I consider it the best television series I've ever seen, and I've watched everything mentioned in this thread.

Thanks guys. I do own all seasons of The Wire and 24. Just haven't torn into them yet. I forgot about Homicide. I used to own the filing cabinet collection, and I regret selling it now.

I'm just looking for that addictive quality where you have to see what happens next. I almost can't believe The Shield is finally returning to tv next week after like a two year hiatus!
