DVD Talk review of 'Caroline in the City - The First Season'

I was reading Jeffrey Kauffman's review of 'Caroline in the City - The First Season' and noticed a small mistake. He said that it "eked out a several year run on NBC when Must See Television included the incredible Thursday night lineup that included the heydays of Frasier and Friends."

The "Friends" part is true (at least for that first season), but "Frasier" was not on the Thursday night schedule when "Caroline in the City" was - "Frasier" was on Tuesdays at that time. Instead, "Seinfeld" was the sitcom juggernaut that immediately preceded "Caroline in the City" which was followed by another juggernaut at the time: "E.R." at 10pm (ET).

And "Caroline in the City" was moved off Thursday nights onto Tuesday nights after its first season, where it was paired up with "Frasier" for a single season. This was long before "Frasier" joined the Thursday night "Must See TV" line-up in Seinfeld's old 9:00pm (ET) spot for the 1998-1999 season. But, by then, "Caroline in the City" was on Monday nights where it finally ended its run in 1999.

I never got the notification that this thread had been started--I've removed the reference to "Thursday" to preserve complete and utter accuracy.

A bit of a thing, but really I was more of a "Must See TV" fan with Thursday night as the one of two nights a week that I was glued to the TV (Sunday night was the other night, although for FOX not NBC).

And one thing I remember vividly was NBC's annoying habit of using the 8:30-9pm timeslot between "Friends" and "Seinfeld" and the 9:30-10pm timeslot between "Seinfeld" and "ER" as annual musical chairs for launching new shows each season. So a new show would show up one season and then as it's getting to be a regularly watched show, NBC yanks it off Thursday nights and shifts it to another night so that they can have those two precious Thursday night time slots back to launch a couple more new sitcoms. It was annoying how they did this almost every season after "Friends" moved from 9:30pm to 8pm (for its 2nd season in 1995-1996, where it stayed for the remainder of its run).

Of all the sitcoms that showed up in this overused sitcom launching system of NBC, though, I though "Caroline in the City" was arguably the best one.

When I was a young teenager I had such a huge crush on Lea Thompson from these movies:

All the Right Moves (some of the first boobies I ever saw on cable)
Back to the Future (so hot in this)
Space Camp (a favorite of mine that I watched over and over on HBO)
Howard the Duck (the movie sucks, but I watched it multiple times just for Lea)
Some Kind of Wonderful (maybe my favorite John Hughs teen movie)

But I never really got into Caroline in the City, even though I did watch the first couple of seasons regularly. I didn't buy the romance with Richard for one thing.

I never bought it, either. I was like "Lea, you should be with me!"

OK, maybe I'm not enough of a fan though, was she topless in All The Right Moves?
