DVD Talk review of 'Romance Collection: Special Ed. (Pride and Prejudice, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Emma, Tom Jones, Jane Eyre, Lorna Doone, Ivanhoe)'
I read Paul Mavis's DVD review of Romance Collection: Special Ed. (Pride and Prejudice, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Emma, Tom Jones, Jane Eyre, Lorna Doone, Ivanhoe) at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=33453 and I found it unsatisfactory, particularly in regard to Ivanhoe. The 1997 A&E/BBC co-production of Ivanhoe is one of the best things I have seen on TV. My son, who knew nothing about the novel or the film, found the film entrancing, so much so that he gave me the DVD version, even though I already possessed the VHS version. How anyone can prefer the stilted 1952 Ivanhoe over the 1997 production baffles me. I also think the early 1980s version of Pride and Prejudice superior to the one Mavis reviews.
