Machine Girl - Any reviews? good blind buy?

I saw that many have been ordering this title during Deep Discount's 20% off sale, yet the only review I can find is at dvdbeaver. Will this title be reviewed here at dvdtalk? ...and is it a good blind buy?

DVD Beaver has the only review I've seen.

I don't believe DVD Talk gets copies of Tokyo Shock's titles to review, so the only way a review is likely to show up would be if a write-up were done from a reviewer's personal collection.

The Amazon listing for this title has several reviews, a few of which give additional background/story detail not found in the DVD Beaver review, and a search will yield a few others of varying length that should easily tell you if this is the kind of film you'd like to spring for.

Don't know if a trailer would help. It's fairly representative (although it does contain a fair amount of the "good stuff" from the film):

Personally, I hope we'll see more of this gonzo stuff in the future. The idea of taking bikini models and hardcore porn starlets mainstream in stuff like this and SUKEBAN BOY and UNDEAD POOL is inspired, to say the least!

Worst case scenario might be holding off another year or so and picking up the inevitable Tokyo Shock three-pack that combines this with a couple other titles for about fifteen bucks. ;)

I have the Machine Girl dvd. I can't comment on the A/V quality since I'm definitely no expert.

But for the film itself, I found myself howling several times due to the over-the-top action scenes & obnoxious acting with gallons of fake blood spurting all over the place. The director clearly knew there was a market for this type of film (surprisingly more popular in the US & Europe than Japan itself!!).

It's apparent that this movie was made cheaply, but what they lacked in budget was made up by absolute creativity. I actually found Machine Girl much more fun than Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror (both had the concept of machine guns acting as artificial limbs).

Extras include a short behind-the-scenes where some of the actors actually kind of thought they were making an important "Lawrence of Arabia" type of movie.

Highly recommended if you know what you're getting at.

The Machine Girl - 3.5/5

If there are any copyright infringement lawyers reading this, please contact me as soon as possible, as I am pretty sure I wrote this script when I was 12. How else could you explain the avenging hot Asian schoolgirl-with-gatling-gun-for-arm upskirt panty shots, Yakuza leader with a Wolverine haircut, red Adidas tracksuit wearing ninjas, obnoxious pre-teen bullies, multiple old school head slices, bad CGI throwing stars, flying guillotines, arterial spray that looks like it originates from your backyard lawn sprinkler, steel bras with razor sharp spinning drill-bit tassels worn by hot Asian milfs, football uniform wearing henchmen, and implied corpse rape? Even though this movie makes 'Shoot 'Em Up' seem about as over the top as a documentary on how you make cheese, it is still undeniably fun. If you liked 'Planet Terror', 'Army of Darkness', or those corny old school Saturday morning kung-fu flicks, then you should absolutely be in your glory while watching 'The Machine Girl'.

I own it and it's good but not the greatness I was expecting. Obviously a big fan of Sam Raimi. Nothing original but watch when your mind is altered like mine was and you'll enjoy it all the more. Good video and good sound, nothing to write home about. It gets the job done. Very little extras. Cute girl, lots of blood and Ninjas: If this makes something move in your pants then I suggest you go out and buy it. It's only like $12, you cheap ass! Enjoy.

I blind bought it from Walmart and loved it. It's ridiculous in all the right ways.
