DVD Talk review of 'Scarecrows'

I read Ian Jane's DVD review of Scarecrows at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=30869 and...

Ian Jane's assessment of Scarecrows is pretty thorough except for few things that I think actually make it better than most 80s horror flicks – and subsequently more than just a nostalgic viewing experience. In the pervasive culture of 80's excess Scarecrows is loaded with subtext about the pitfalls of the "Greed is good" mentality. The lengths the thieves go to get their money creates a moral dilemma that that rises above the gore and meager production values. Two scenes in particular are really interesting in they way money is used as sort of morality test for the thieves. Scarecrows could easily be remade today with an even smarter script that focuses on the desperate times people are having in this depressed economy. Think about it... how many scarecrows would you go up against for a million bucks?
