Which Version Of 'The Abyss' To Get?

Just wondering which version to get since, to my surprise, I don't have it. There seem to be a few out there, but there are complaints about picture, etc... can anyone help?

None of the releases are anamorphic, I wouldn't buy any of them. If you don't have it yet, just wait for a proper transfer.

I agree with basaro - hoping they get this right on Blu-ray. Same thing goes for True Lies.

Yeah, but f**kin' A, how long do we have to wait?

It's been confirmed - James Cameron will never release this movie on an anamorphic DVD because he'll get sued by Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio - she had a really really really bad experience with an anamorphic DVD once. I can understand actors with tempers such as Ed Harris or Michael Biehn suing him, but who would have thought it was Mary? ;)

I can't believe an anamorphic DVD hasn't been released. This is one of my favorite films... I already own it but I want an anamorphic transfer really bad. I'd re-buy this movie in an instant.

Actually, the delay is because Cameron's going back and digitally replacing her with Mary Stewart Masterson.

The Wal-Mart single-disc Abyss with the lenticular cover says that it is anamorphic on the back cover. Is it mislabeled then?

Yes, all editions of the movie are mislabled as anamorphic. The only part of the disc that's anamorphic are the menus.

Long-winded bump............

Any idea about True Lies?

Oh and a very long-winded BTW.....btw.....The Original 2 Disc Abyss is worth it for the "Under Pressure - The Making of the Abyss" alone.

As far as non-anamorphic DVDs go, this one ain't too bad.

I have the anamorphic French PAL DVD of True Lies. I'm very happy with it....
