Different DVD Editions of Dracula and Frankenstein
 

I was in my local wal-mart the other day and saw they had the 75th anniversary editions of both Frankenstein and Dracula for 13.72 (before tax) which I've been wanting to pick up for awhile. What I hoping to find out from you all was, are these the best editions of these films available? I remember there were "Legacy editions" at one point but am not sure exactly what the differences are and wanted to know anyone's personal opinion on which is better. Thanks!

I have both versions, as they are totally different when it comes to extras.

The legacy editions are nice because they include multiple sequels, but the 75th anniversary editions and the older CMM editions have extras unique to those releases.

There are several nice reviews here, search the review database.

Some of them I think have the Spanish language version, too, which is a trip if you get a chance to see it. Wikipedia has an article here about it

Basically they were shooting at the same time, only they had the benefit of Tod Browning's dailies every afternoon as references. Kind of an interesting peek at the way early sound cinema dealt with a multi-lingual marketplace.

I think it all depends on what you are looking for. The original releases had all the films, but a suspect transfer. The 75th's have better transfers and very good extras
