DVD Talk review of 'The Dark Crystal - 25th Anniversary Edition'

I read Brian Orndorf's DVD review of The Dark Crystal - 25th Anniversary Edition at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=29457 and...I had no interest in another iteration until I read your review Brian. Thanks a lot! Seriously, great review and I will get this since it is one of my all-time favorites. I love the story and the look is so engrossing. It sounds like the video is the best it will be on SD and the extras are exhaustive. I'll bite.

I just hope the B&M's have this.

Wait: so i guess we have to keep the other SE for the trailers. and i guess the new stuff is the commentary and the new featurettes?

5 Stars? I like it but a perfect film? Really?

adoring a film and respecting the makers doesn't make it a 'perfect' film

that's just hyperbolic fanboy slobber

i love it too, but if you pull out the word 'PERFECT' get ready to defend your opinion. while DC is an epic of all time... there are many things you could pick apart and find fault with, even if you're a huge fan.

Raging Bull isn't 'perfect'

Rear Window isn't 'perfect'

but Dark Crystal IS?

I think you should amend it to read "perfect to me" or, "in my opinion there's nothing that could make this film better"

*edit*

no wait... no edit. this post is perfect.

Brian's other 5 star films have included:

Flash Gordon
Raiders of the Lost Ark: The Adaptation
Sicko
Ocean's 13
Hot Fuzz
and
Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny

So it's obvious Brian doesn't feel a movie has to be Citizen Kane or Schindler's List to get the top score. Not calling out Brian on his reviews (they are opinions after all), but as a reader, I know this going into any of his reviews.

in case you were on the fence about this release and love a good marketing ploy...this has a very nice lenticular cover for your viewing pleasure...

"The Dark Crystal" (25th Anniversary Edition)
<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/wwewHNBjaOY"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/wwewHNBjaOY" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

this is a nice lenticular cover, akin to "Batman Begins" (DE) in quality and durability, but BB gets the edge in changie goodness.

If Raging Bull isn't perfect then no movie is perfect. I don't throw the word around loosely but that doesn't mean some movies aren't perfect.

Brian,

I for one think your review of this film is perfect.

Your review expresses the exact emotions i felt about the movie when i was a kid and how i have come to respect it as film today due to the technical marvel.

i have absolutely no idea what a "perfect" film even is, but when it draws upon so many emotions within you that you remember it for all time, it seems just about the perfect elements that make movies great.

So have we come to an agreement that all dvdtalk reviews must be in the following format:

Personally, I would probably SKIP IT
My advice, I'd tell my brother to RENT IT
IMO RECOMMENDED
IMHO HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
I know I am only speaking for myself, coming from my experiences and tastes, but I feel that this movie should be considered for the prestigious (IMO) DVDTALK COLLECTORS SERIES

i don't really see what there is a debate about. the last category on all the reviews, the one that sums up, is called "Advice". it is simply the opinion of the individual reviewer and then the reader makes up his or her mind as to whether it warrants a purchase or not. no need to put imo or anything like that. any review, anywhere is simply opinion and if "DVD Talk Collector Series" is given, well, then that is how the reviewer feels when you take in all the factors: the movie itself, the video quality, the audio quality, perhaps packaging, then the extras.

it is all "imo" and doesn't need to be bullet pointed for us to know that.

Is every feature on the previous releases carried over to this new one?
