DVD Talk review of 'Streets of Fire'

I read Adam Tyner's DVD review of Streets of Fire at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=29422 and...

I was hoping they would include the music video's that came out on VHS so long ago (separate from the movie itself) but I'm glad the technical matters were an upgrade. It might be a guilty pleasure for some of us but Adam got it right when calling it a cult classic. Good review!

You need to seriously change your review to correct the assumption that a SHE MALE is dancing/stripping in the movie. The actress is Marine Jahan, a woman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marine_Jahan)

It is unfair to heap assumptions into this film when there is already so little known about it.

I didn't mean that to be taken literally; just quipping about the gender-ambiguity.

I can change it if you think it's confusing or offensive.

I'm probably going to pick this up in the next few days thanks to Adam's review.

I think people already have no idea what the film is about and it could sway expectations either way unfairly.

and maybe its a geeky movie trivia pet peeve for one of my favorite films. Kind of like calling Frankensteins monster "Frankenstein"

Adam Tyner 08-02-07 01:00 PM

Okay, I just reworded that bit.

Is it really that little known? The soundtrack was a smash, and even if the movie flopped box office-wise, it's remained enough of a cult hit over the years. Sure, most folks might not remember it very well, but it's not like it's super-obscure.

Or have I been that stuck in the 80s?

One of my favorite songs is Dan Hartman's "I Can Dream About You." That single and video made me want to see the film.

When the CD was first released in the USA, it had such a generic cover (the back was yellow with a simple listing of the ten songs, leaving off the score IIRC and providing ZERO liner notes). I still prefer Nowhere Fast, Tonight is what..., and Sorcerer but Hartman's song got most of the airplay at the time.
