Is the Flash Gordon animated show good?

There is a Flash Gordon animated show - I think from the 70's.

Would this be a good blind buy?

I personally think it holds up better than some of the other animated shows I liked around that time, such as Dungeons and Dragons. It's not overwhelmingly good, but if you're a Flash Gordon fan I'd recommend it.

I remember really liking it because it wasn't kiddified. No talking animals, no comic relief. Pretty serious. I don't think the animation as anything too spectacular, but it's worth checking out if you like sci-fi.

I remember it being a little slow paced, though. You might want to netflix the first disc before dropping cash for the whole set.

Edit: it's also worth noting that although it follows the classic Flash Gordon storyline, it's nothing like the live action FG movie from the same time period.

Long story short: season one's great, season two... not so much.

Bummer about the news of the animated movie not being on DVD. I thought there was a movie...my adolescent memories recall being quite enthralled in that movie and I had looked a long time for it. When I found the region two Flash Gordon animated DVDs, I thought I had found what I was looking for, and figured they edited episodes into movies, then the full series came out in America.

I don't remember the details of the movie...just that I enjoyed it quite a bit and loved the animation. Now that I understand the episodes were not edited into the movie but the movie was edited into the episodes and material was taken out, I now wonder why the movie is not on DVD as well.

And so my quest continues.

Considering just how much work BCI puts into their DVD sets, I'm guessing the rights to the movie must not have been available for some reason, or perhaps the movie itself has just been lost to time. (I'm convinced if BCI could get it, they'd release it.)

Anyone else know the story behind the movie, why it's disappeared for so long?
