I need your opinions.
So I try to get at least a new DVD every month. I know I don't have thousands like many of you, but for a college student, I think I'm doing okay.
I just need you tell me what's the best movie I have in my collection and do I have a good taste in movies? Check the link in my sig for my dvds. Thanks for the opinions. |
Se7en and Donnie Darko, although there are better versions of both movies available to purchase. Consider upgrading the Se7en disk.
I won't lie... you got some stinkers there... keep working on it. |
I think you need to stay away from some of those sequels. OY!
|
Yeah, I do have some lame dvds in there, but I got them for basically free.
|
Failure to Launch? Full Screen Version?
Kill it kill it kill it kill it! later edit: Seriously, half of your dvds are full screen. Bad dvd collector, bad! -screwy- |
Fight Club is a great movie.
It's Dumb and Dumberer and your full screens that make me cringe. |
You must purge yourself of the following movies!!
Dumb and Dumberer Mortal Kombat Annihilation Grind 2 fast 2 Furious Why the hell do you have the full screen version of Alexander: The Directors Cut? |

I think you're best movie is Black Hawk Down. That movie is simply amazing. Donnie Darko blows, and yes I own it too.
I would suggest checking out the AFI top 100 list if you want to familiar yourself with some classic movies. It's a good start. |
Ghostbusters.
I'll agree with PopcornTreeCt. It is time to start investigating some classic films (or at least something pre-1982). I'll recommend Apocalypse Now. It is older than anything on your list. It appears that you like horror so you should also get the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Halloween. |

taste is subjective in many ways, so always collect what you like, not just what other people say you should. but i do agree with what others have said, WIDESCREEN is the way to go. even if you don't have a widescreen television and you don't like those black bars on top and bottom, widescreen preserves the filmmakers' original vision and should definitely be the version to buy. plus, widescreen televisions are becoming the norm with the move to digital, so it'll benefit you in the long run as well. gladiator and spider-man are excellent choices for your collection! |
No animation or anime? No Asian horror? No classics?
I don't think any of my recommendations would help. All that matters is that you like what you like. |
In my opinion, you shouldn't give a rat's ass what we, or anyone else, thinks about your collection. :)

I think that instead of looking at AFI's top 100 list (which I'm currently doing myself) that you should do IMDB's top 250 list. A lot of the titles on IMDB's list are more... accessible, mainstream, popular. But don't get too caught up in how other people rank movies, most importantly you should watch what you think will interest you.
IMDB's list is: http://www.imdb.com/chart/top Post-1990 examples, movies to start out with: Pulp Fiction Goodfellas Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Shawshank Redemption Fargo City of God The Usual Suspects Forrest Gump American Beauty Heat Requiem for a Dream Memento Leon: The Professional Pre-1990 examples, movies to start out with: The Godfather (trilogy) The Good the Bad and the Ugly The Graduate 2001: A Space Odyssey The Shining North By Northwest Psycho Vertigo It's A Wonderful Life Taxi Driver Raging Bull One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest Chinatown The Maltese Falcon Double Indemnity Sunset Blvd. Some Like It Hot Alien/Aliens The Sting Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid Cool Hand Luke |
Whew....some of those titles. Did I see a Van Damme flick in there?
Seriously, don't let this happen to you: http://www.theonion.com/content/node/38626 |
I think that this one is also appropriate:

At least you have Fight Club!

Yaknow, stuff that maybe'd be more age-appropriate and accessible at first? |
