DVD Talk review of 'Pan's Labyrinth: 2-Disc Platinum Series'
I read Randy Miller III's DVD review of Pan's Labyrinth: 2-Disc Platinum Series at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=28029 and...awesome review Randy. I was so looking forward to re-visitng this on DVD. Reading and knowing that R1 is truly getting a release this movie deserves makes me look very forward to getting Tuesday and watching next weekend.
Alot of times my theater shows a movie that is dark too dark, but DVD, when done right, brings that darkness out and illuminates it if you know what i mean. "The Decent" was a dark movie, but the UK release was so gorgeous and made the bleak look glorious. New Line is known for their great transfers and this one seems to be no exception. It is too bad that no retailer is getting any really good exclusives (steelbook), but the movie itself more than makes up for that and looking forward to all the extras made English friendly with all subs. Glad i held off not getting the nice Spain version because the extras would have been useless and would have wanted the R1 anyway, like most other regions i get. |
Really wanted to see this film in theaters but never got the chance... I'll definitely go with a blind buy!!! -- Didn't read the entire review as it clearly stated there was spoilers, but just from word of mouth, the film looks fantastic all around!

Thanks for reading, guys.
You won't be disappointed! |
It seems like each region has a different set of extras (along with some overlap).
Can anyone come up with a list of what's exclusive to each region? |

I mean I loved it as many did here and in the movie community, but you can see how it wouldn't appeal to the masses, can't you? Adult fairy tales aren't the most popular sell, although after this magnificent opus you could bet on more of them. |

I liked it, but didn't love it like a lot are saying and it most certain wasn't the best film I saw last year.
It's by far Del Toro's best film but that's not such a compliment since I thought all the films he has done previously ranged from below average to just plain crap. It's a good movie but for me it's no second coming. Good thing I waited to compare the extras from the US, UK, and Spanish DVD sets. The US and UK discs are very much lacking in the extras department (I think the near perfect score Randy gave it is way too high). The Spanish release includes way more stuff, so I'll be getting that. Although I find it interesting that Del Toro actually did two commentaries for the film in each language. Most directors just do one and let that one be translated for other releases. Wonder how each compare. |
