Looking for lavish studio pictures from the '40s - '60s...
 

Watching Ben-Hur for the first time today (and loving it) has gotten me interested in seeing some other major studio productions from the same era. I honestly don't recall ever seeing anything else along these lines, aside from part of El Cid on cable once. :)

Given that this particular style of movie is nearly the polar opposite of what I tend to gravitate towards, I'll have to plead ignorance on what else to check out. Cleopatra came to mind and... well, that was about it! Recommendations?

Slightly different but...Doctor Zhivago in my opinion is one of the best lavish pictures ever made!!!
