DVD Talk review of 'Elvis Presley - The Ed Sullivan Shows'
I read Paul Mavis's DVD review of Elvis Presley - The Ed Sullivan Shows at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=25016 and...
Paul's detailed and careful review urged me to grab this DVD, and I must say, he was like an angel on my shoulder. Terrific DVD, as we've come to expect from IMAGE entertainment, with fantastic packaging, picture quality and extras, and I'm enjoying it thoroughly.
I was interested to see what Paul was referring to when he remarked about Elvis's making faces at the camera, and those faces not going over. I did notice the goofery, but I couldn't detect any audible reaction from the audience either way...what did you mean, Paul?
Keep up the great work, sir! You're a top reviewer here.

Hi, Ethan -- thanks so much for the nice compliment! When I watched these performances, any time Elvis deviated one inch from just standing there, singing the song, the audience went insane. When he moved just the slightest bit, or did one of his trademark moves, the audience loved it. But when he deviated "from script," if you will, and made those faces -- which I believe he did because he didn't particularly enjoy singing that ballad -- the audience was strangely quiet, when you would have expected them to respond to this spontaneous moment. But it was just an isolated moment in a performance that they obviously loved.
Thanks again for the kind words.
Paul
