Beverly Hills 90210 or Melrose Place?

I know its a tad bit early (they comeout in exactly two weeks), but I was wondering if anyone has found any reviews for the first seasons of "beverly hills 90210" or "melrose place" or if they know when they will come posted? Thanks!

jrobinson: thanks.. solid review glad to hear show holds up so well. I thought it would but you never know till you watch it again. A quick question on your picture quality rating though, if you wouldn't mind answering. Is your rating 2 stars because of the occasional problem that pops up like on james eckhouse face in that screen capture ? if not for those blemishes what would your rating be a 3 of 5 ?

Also did you notice what music replacements their were ?

Thanks! :)

If the apparent visual defects weren't there, I would give it 2.5 stars for video (what I consider average).

No. It's been way too long since I've seen these episodes to tell.

Thanks for the excellent BH90210 review! How is this set packaged? Is it a digipack or seperate slimcases with a slipcover?

jrobinson 10-30-06 07:46 AM

Six DVDs, three slim dual cases

jrobinson, thanks for the quick answer! :)

Thanks for the review, this is definately going to be an opening-day pickup, bad video and all...

I dont think the video is gonna be as bad as everyone thinks. I think jrobinson has a strong rating system and that is fine, you just need to read some of his reviews of stuff you own then you will getter a better feel for what to expect. For example The A-Team got 1.5 stars and i consider that to be very good presentation of the show and best the a-team has ever looked. So the Score of 2.0 is not as bad as it might seem on the surface. Like he said if not for a few blemishes now and then it woulda gotten a 2.5 average score and that is fine for a tvshow from the era.

I presume as the years go on it's possible the video would improve some. I have avoided watching the show on soapnet, holding out for dvd's. But i turned it on today for heck of it to see video quality. If as the review says it is as good as tv broadcast then it will be fine. As the show looked very good on there.

Question: I never watched 90210, but might be interested in picking it up for the initial high school angst/fish-out-of-water stuff. When did it become soap-operaish, so I would know when to stop buying them?

From my semi-limited experience the show seemed to take a dramatic step to the soapopera angle around the end of season 5 when Jason Preisley left the show and the writers seemed to run out of 'teen angst' ideas...

Jason Priestly actually left during Season 9 after the 6th episode. His character took a job at a Washington DC Newspaper.

You may just want to watch SoapNet. The weekday episodes are shown in order and they are on Season 9 of 10 right now. They should be starting over with Season 1 in a few more weeks.

I was thinking Luke Perry, and I have no idea why I wrote Jason Priestly... thanks for catching me on this one!
