DVD Talk review of 16 BLOCKS...
I read Randy Miller III's review of 16 Blocks earlier today and am currently watching the movie. Something mentioned in the review was nagging me and I finally realized what it is. In the review, Randy notes plot similarities to Midnight Run. Well, Bruce Willis' character is "Jack Mosley." In Midnight Run, DeNiro plays "JACK Walsh," and spends most of the movie impersonating "Alonso MOSLEY." I don't know if it is a coincidence or not, but that is what has been nagging me all day.

This is an ok rental, I don't think I'll be buying it. Running Scared made me happy last week, so I was hoping Bruce would be able to stomp Paul Walker. He didn't. He did just as well in this movie as he did in Hostage, which is just ok- Both are movies that could have been great with tighter writing and better casting. I don't want to dislike Bruce, so I'll leave it at that.
I was happy that

I don't get why Donner and the writer did a commentary for the deleted scene and alternate ending and not the entire movie. Was the movie that unbearable for them to watch again? Were they not paid enough by the Studio to do a commentary for the entire movie?
On the Must Love Dogs DVD, Gary David Goldberg did something similar and only did commentary for the deleted scenes.

My friend works at Rogers Video, so he was able to rent this a few days before it was officially released (he had it on the Thursday before it came out.) We watched it on the Friday night, after poker, and I thought it was relatively mediocre. I couldn't really get into it emotionally, and it just felt like it was lacking. Mos Def was alright and his character was likeabe.

I woulld probably not add it to my collection, but it was a very good rental. Mos Def was very good. He just keeps getting better and better. With all the hype with Jamie Fox (spelling/) I think Mos will be more memorable with time, unless Jamie gets back to actually acting. In the last couple of films he was in, he bored me. What a great role for Bruce too. I mean this wasn't Sixth Sense or 12 Monkeys, but Bruce put in a very good performance as well, but Mos almost stole the show. He's quickly becoming an actor I might have to check out a film just because he's in it.
