DVD Talk review of 'The Detective'

I read DVD Savant's DVD review of The Detective at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=15997 and...
This is one hell of a lousy movie. Never mind that its dated and full of homophobic remarks and actions I can pass that off for the time it was made after all 1968 was before Stonewall. Still the movie is so badly directed and written that its painful to sit through. Sinatra is all wrong for the role of a detective with a sense of right and wrong. You just can't believe him. Poor lovely Lee Remick is also wasted in the role of the sex crazed wife whose looking for love in all the wrong places, and Tony Musante does a bad impersonation of Dennis Hopper on some sort of drug, easily one of the worst performances ever commited to celluloid. Mixed in this mess is a horrible murder of a gay man and all sorts of political and police corruption. The gay bar scene and truck scenes are a hoot though because they are so obvious and stupid in their execution and writing. The look of the film is of a 60's t.v. cop show you keep waiting for the commercial that never comes, and the score is also bad. The only bright spot is the short role that the wonderful Renee Taylor plays as a steotypical good Jewish wife. This film is to be avoided at all costs.
