I am looking to make a blind buy on this. Can't rent. So would anything I have in collecion or anything else to compare to?

"Can't rent"? That's a shame, as this would solve your seemingly endless blind-buy dilemmas. What can one say? It is Bergman, and one of Bergman's very best. It is Criterion, and one of Criterion's very best.

Will you like it? Unfortunately my attempted mind-meld with that portion of your brain that holds your personal cinematic sensibilities failed to take hold. I do see that you have no Bergman in a collection that leans heavily toward genre horror and Hollywood blockbusters... that is, nothing really comparable to this film. But if you're asking me whether this is a good way to spend your DVD money, my response is an unequivocal hell yes.

Wouldn't that question best be answered by doing some research on the film, say at imdb or even the review on this very site? I'm guessing you know your tastes and collection better than the rest of us.

You could always try this detailed scientific experiment:

I wouldn't blind buy it if you are not familar with Bergman. Especially since its one of their more pricy releases.

Depends a lot on what your taste for European films is.

You need a Netflix/Blockbuster/Greencine/etc. account. Would solve this problem.

I own it, but I wouldn't recommend it for a blind buy. Mostly because it is expensive. At least with a cheap movie, if it's not your thing, you didn't spend much...

Bergman is a very acquired taste. I wouldn't recommend it as a blind buy if you're not familiar with his other work.

Not really. Check out some other Bergman first. Do you have the Turner Classic Movies channel? Bergman movies are in their regular rotation (but not this one). Keep an eye out for them. "The Seventh Seal" is a good movie to pop your Bergman cherry with.

Also "The Seventh Seal" isn't terribly difficult to find at a rental store. I have seen it at quite a few blockbusters.
