The Island DVD Reviews?
Has anybody seen any DVD reviews for "The Island"?
|
Anything yet?
|
The reviews will start popping up in the next couple of days. I don't believe that DreamWorks ever sends out advanced screeners to any of the review sites.
|
Eager to hear about the transfer/audio myself.
|
I am getting the movie around 12:30pm. So, I will post a review shortly after that. Also, will post a review of the Walmart bonus disc.

The British are impressed....though this appears to be the Canadian disc.

http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=59535 Ciao, Pro-B After further review, this seems to be a screw-up. The back of the Canadian release shows 5.1 tracks in both french and english. I woudn't rush to buy the US release either since it might have the same problem. |
The DVD is pretty good. The video is GREAT! The audio is 5.1 ENGLISH dolby digital. And the extras are pretty good for what you get. the stunts featurette is pretty good. it runs 15mins and explains the step by step prcess of creating the car chase sequence. I havent watched the commentary yet. as for the walmart bonus disc, is is weel worth the buy. it includes the HBO making of the island special , and a visual effects featurette. WELL WORTH THE BUY! I give the video a 10/10 , audio 10/10 , and the extras a 7.5/10.

Too many typos for me to take the assertion that it is 5.1 seriously...any other more informed sources out there?
|
The US disc is certainly English 5.1. The Canadian release only has the French dub in 5.1 and an English 2.0 track. This has happened on a number of previous occasions, notably The Abyss.
Blame Canada. They're not even a real country anyway. |

Video is excellent, very damn clear. 9/10.
Audio is okay, gunshots could have been louder and the surrounds could have been used more. Bass is good. 7.5/10 Behind the scenes documentary isn't bad, but somewhat feels like a fluff piece. As always, Bay's commentary is interesting and informative. Pretty much a barebones release. 4/10. Dreamworks should have added a DTS track. Why is it that House of the Dead gets DTS but not a big budget movie? Oh yeah, I think Michael Bay bankrupt Dreamworks with this movie. ;) |
I am going to netflix this movie. Scarlett is SO hot, lol.

With the lack of extras material is it safe to assume we can see a 2 disc in the next few months???

Blame Canada. They're not even a real country anyway. Yeah....Josh Z is 100% correct. The Canadian disc is only Dolby 2.0 for english. The french tracks and packaging are beginning to be a real pain in the butt for Canadian releases. It's bad enough we have the lame-ass bilingual packages, but now they are depriving us of the stronger audio tracks. Another recent example is Unleashed. The US and HK dvds have a great DTS audio option, where the Canadian dvd only has 5.1 for both english and french. I presume the DTS was dropped so they could squeeze in the french track. Pretty soon I am going to have import all my dvds from the US. |

Us??? Who do you represent???? Did anyone elect you to represent the whole of Canada? Believe it or not there are people who need French tracks on Canadian produced DVDs. Same goes for covers as well. Ciao, Pro-B |

No one is talking about making French DVDs!! These are Canadian DVDs that your fellow countrymen are entitled to have by law with French tracks. Quite a difference I would say!! And your statement is just as dismissive as denouncing Hard of Hearing tracks in favor for better Audio/Video quality which as far as I am concerned should be required on all DVDs by law (here's another group of people that also believe it or not exists).
