Pls recc. some good recent HK films
Ok, in the past I was pretty big into HK films, I own/saw, many of the older more acclaimed titles. But for the last 3-4 years, I really haven't kept up with the more acclaimed films (other than the wide US release ones). So what are some of the better HK films of the last 3-4 years that I probably missed?
Thanks, Matthew Zolton |
Depends on what genres you are looking for, but I really enjoyed the following:
- A World Without Thieves - Drama - The Classic - Rom. Comedy - House of Fury - Action/Comedy - Breaking News - Action/Thriller - Ke Ke Xi Li - Drama |
The Infernal Affairs trilogy, definitely.

I'm curious though-- both this and The Yakuza Papers seem to get compared to The Godfather (at least in recent reviews I've read). So, how does Infernal Affairs Trilogy stack up against The Yakuza Papers? |
Haven't seen The Yakuza Papers to compare, sorry.

The Classic - Rom. Comedy : that a Korean Movie too. Gotto agree with Timeandtide tat the current better Asian films are from Korea, very low output from the HK film industry and those films are really not up to the standard of the HK Golden Age (80s to the early 90s)
The better one that I seen recently was SPL (Sha PO Liang), with Sammo Hung, Donnie Yen and Simon Yam in it. Should be released in US pretty soon. the HK film that I enjoyed was "You Shoot, I shoot" by Ho Cheung Ping. low budget but fun. check the website here http://www.goldenharvest.com/ushooti.../main_eng.html |
Thanks for all of the recommendations. I plan to check out a few of these!
