DVD Talk review of 'Astérix & Obélix: Mission Cléopâtre (UK)'

I read Svet Atanasov's DVD review of Astérix & Obélix: Mission Cléopâtre (UK) at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=17675 and...

I was wondering, is this PAL? If it is, I think it should be noted. Ditto for the Mountain Patrol review. Well, my GDFace copy is PAL, and your review looks to have the same version.

Other than that, it's great that you guys started putting up non-R1 reviews. Keep it up.

Yes, it is the R2-UK PAL release.

Yeah, thought so. I thought they'd mention if it was, though. Maybe they figure if you care about R2 releases, you can already play PAL no problem...

Anyway, thanks.

Why does amazon.uk show this as not being released until November?
Is that supposed to be a 2-disc version or something?

Will Canada get a dvd of this like they often do with a lot of French films?

btw, Pro, thanks for those screen-caps of Belucci. Yowza!

That is one of the big mysteries life has to offer at this point......Amazon.UK canceled this title 3 times so far (since last year that is). There is already a Canadian release which is French-only...for French-speaking Canada. If you wish to see the film with English subs...this UK disc is very neatly put together.

Didn't mean it that way. You just forgot a detail...

You're the reviewer, you can write what you want, right? Like I said, it's great dvdtalk is starting with non-R1 DVDs... guess I shouldn't complain...

And a great release it is. Great packaging, funniest menus I've ever seen and tons of extras. Unfortunately, not for the french challenged.

Pro-B, do you have the UK DVD too? Did you see the differences in the running time between the English dubbed and the Fench spoken version?

Dirk:

First of all thank you for the email...you are correct. Second of all, I am going to be honest with you (as I stated in the email I sent to you)- I DID NOT watch the film with the English dub on....I went trough it to hear what the voices are like...but I don't like dubs (For the record Dirk is asking a very good question...the running time on the English-dubbed version appears shorter than the one on the original French-spoken version)......

Pro-B

Edit:
the Question has been answered (better that I could have)...the dubd version is cut. Not that you would want to see but still.....

It really seems that the English dubbed version is the re-edited version mentioned on www.bbfc.co.uk .

Dirk

PS At least they gave us both versions on this DVD as the rear of the cover states 103 minutes!
