DVD Talk review of 'Lost - The Complete First Season'

I read das Monkey's DVD review of Lost - The Complete First Season at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=17420 and...

...expected to find information about the subtitles included in the release (specifically, if Spanish subtitles were included).

Spanish subtitles are not included, only English.

Das,

I don't know if you saw the other thread or not, but I'm curious about the trailer for Season 2 on the discs. Is that something that should be avoided if you're new to the show or is it pretty spoiler free?

You took the time to read the review. It's the least I can do to respond as quickly as possible.

OK, so you got screwed out of the quick response. I was midway through typing my response when I got interrupted by an urgent message. My apologies.

Something I thought would have been worth mentioning was the episode order. Officially there were 25 on first broadcast. Well, it's actually listed as 26, if you count Lost - The Journey special/doc that aired between Do No Harm and the Greater Good, which in official episode guides seems to be counted as an official episode.

However, on first broadcast the final episode Exodus was split in to 3 40 something minute episodes, but on the DVD box set is split in two, with Exodus 1 being 43 mins, and Exodus 2 1.24, making it a double episode.

I think it's worth pointing out because a lot of people may pick up the box and look at the episode guide and think they are missing an episode.

In the original airing, it aired as 2 parts, "Part 1" at 1 hour and "Part 2" (aka "Parts 2 and 3") at 2 hours the following week. The DVDs have it correct.

Agreed...the two parts of Exodus aired over two weeks, not three. Although I can see how some may have thought that final episode was two back to back episodes (it wasn't).

The reason I queried the number of episodes was that I was given the following link to an episode guide -

http://www.epguides.com/Lost/

and is says that the last episode was split into 3 rather than two. Of course I don't know where or on what channel this aired.

Looking at the listing in the link, Exodus 2 & 3 were aired on the same night. I guess they're looking at it as 2 1-hr eps instead of a single 2-hr episode.

Can't wait to pick this up... and very nice review das (you lucky bastard)

Quick question. I am assuming that there are 4 episodes per disc? Am I right?

4 per disc. Disc #6 has "The Greater Good", "Born to Run", "Exodus, Part I", and "Exodus, Part II (aka II & III)", so it's really 5 tv hours.

Picked this up on Saturday.

Great set, like the packaging and the video and audio quality is fantastic. Will be tough to watch season two in fullscreen after watching these in anamorphic widescreen!

You've still got time to buy an HDTV before the season starts. Get out there!

I almost never watch tv but I was given Lost season 1 to review. I thought oh well, this is probably some sort of souped up Survivor crap so I'll watch the pilot, a few bits here and there and wing the review. Well I started watching and coudn't stop. I watched the whole thing including all the extras in 4 evenings.

So now it's either watch season 2 on tv despite my hatred of commercials and having to wait a week between episodes or wait a year for season 2 on DVD.

Get a Tivo and fast forward the commercials. Or hell, even tape it on vcr.

Anyway, I found one minor nitpick. It's kind of lame that some episodes still have the "previously on lost" recaps at the beginning. Kind of annoying when your watching it straight through.

Whatever kind of contraption a Tivo is I'm not going to buy one just for this.
And my VCR is busted and I never bought a replacement. I guess I'm just going to watch it on HD and flip channels during commercials. What date/time does season 2 start anyway?

Yeah those are lame, especially when they show sections from four shows ago (even though they relate to what will be in the episode), but who is the guy that says "Previously On Lost..."? Cool voice. On other shows, it is usually an actor on the show, but I can't place the voice on one of the actors.

Oh, you're really going to love watching Lost on broadcast, then. Every "hour long" episode has about 25 minutes of commercials. It's insane. During some of the later episodes of Season 1, they'd come back from commercial, only show a single 2-3 minute scene, and then cut to another 5 minute commercial break.

not that long, maybe 15 20 at the most. The only bad thing is that after the opening, there's one every 5 minutes.
