DVD Talk review of 'Soldier's Girl (2003)'
I read John Sinnott's DVD review of Soldier's Girl (2003) at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=9780 and...
while I agree with most, I disagree with the video comments. When I bought my copy, it turned out to be a preview copy. Can't figure out how that happened – yet. Showtime have been notified! However, it had a preview for the movie prior to the movie that you could not skip. The preview was in widescreen and looked absolutely stunning. On comparing scenes in the trailer and the movie, it was clear the movie was pan and scammed and of significant poorer quality. I had hoped for an open-matte presentation as a minimum but that was not to be the case. The second disappointment was that the image was slightly soft and grainy.
I can’t understand why this movie was treated so poorly on DVD. I suspect a double dip when people realize that this is a well made movie with some great performances.
Maybe they didn’t put any effort into the preview copy, but wouldn’t that be dumb? Also, none of the extras were on the disk.
