DVD Talk review of 'Raging Bull: Special Edition'

I read Preston Jones's DVD review of Raging Bull: Special Edition at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=14418 and...

I have just bought a Region 2 special edition of Raging Bull... yet I do not have most of the
special features mentioned in all the reviews I have read... worst of all I have no commentaries whatsoever despite expecting to find more than one track. This DVD which I bought is packaged as the Raging Bull Special Edition therefore I was stunned not to get all the extras I thought I would get. Does anybody know what is going on?

Mr Jinx...this is a region 1 website, all the films that are reviewed in the reviews section are always region 1.

The Region 2 collectors edition is indeed lacking the special features that you mention, but the version that was reviewed was the R1 collectors edition, not the R2.

Actually that's not true. We do review a ton of other region discs as well (although moreso recently than in the past).

Yes I understood that the DVD reviewed was a region 1 DVD... my disappointment had nothing to do with the review but with the fact that MGM has ripped me and other region 2 customers off. I don't understand why these companies issue different special editions for different regions... and why they have the cheek to call the region 2 special edition as 'special' since all it has is a 26 minute featurette which is worth while. My appologies if my criticism seemed like it was directed to the reviewer on this site. My criticism is all towards the people who made this region 2 'special' edition.... more like a rip-off edition especially when it was done right for another region.

Mr Jinx, you need to look at the wording of your original post - it certainly makes it sound like you read the review, then went out and bought the R2 collectors edition assuming it was the same as the R1.

In fact, the R2 collectors edition was released some time before the current R1 release, so the current R2 has nothing to do wit this new R1 release.

I imagine eventually the current R1 SE will eventually be available on R2.

In fact that is more or less what happened. I read many reviews about the Raging Bull Special Edition and wrongly assumed that Region 1 and 2 were the same thing. And I was of course very disappointed when the DVD arrived by post and was less than I expected. I was hoping that I would just hear that the commentaries were hidden (an Easter Egg) but know I am aware that there are actually two special editions. Anyway, thanks for you reply JM1. I guess I'll wait for the updated version of R1 SE and buy it again...
