DVD Talk review of 'I, Robot'
I read Bill Gibron's DVD review of I, Robot at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=13643 and...
up against colateral and LOTR ED I feel bad for Will Smith it is going to be a bad week for the sales of IRobot DVD |
yeah, I picked up Collateral, LOTR:ROTK-EE along with some older titles yesterday. I saw both in the theaters and knew right after seeing them I'd have to own them on dvd. I, Robot, ehhhh from the trailers, it looked predictable and offered no surprises, hell I felt like I watched the whole movie from the trailer, those are the worst.
Then again, it is Will Smith and I believe the movie did good in theaters. And of course to the mainstream and average joe, it might actually outsell Collateral. But hopefully not =) I love Collateral (at least the first 3/4 of it). I was rooting for Vincent. =\ |
Why does the thumbnail picture say Full Screen?

Don't let that fool you. There is an Anamorphic Widescreen version(apprx. 2:35:1) available as well. Why don't they just not put out films on DVD that aren't in their OAR(Original Aspect Ratio).

Anyway, I hardly think that I, Robot is really in any danger from Collateral. It was a higher grosser ($346 million vs. $215 million, worldwide), plus it's a PG-13 Will Smith sci-fi vehicle vs. a dark R-rated Tom Cruiser. LOTR: ROTK, on the other hand.... |

Decent Flick....I avoided it in the theater and was not even interested. I rented it from Netflix and enjoyed it. I bought it at CC the next day.
The transfer and DTS sound are absolutely awesome! Reference quality IMO. |
I just bought this yesterday. Haven't seen it. I don't think that other releases are hurting sales on this movie. Best Buy was running low on this tilte and Collateral. Same thing at Wal-Mart.

I also watched it this weekend for the first time. I really liked it and will be buying it after Christmas. It will easily outsell Collateral (which I also loved BTW).

Just saw this movie this weekend. I loved it! Wish I would have seen it at the theater. I saw it Friday and bought it Saturday.

I thought "I, Robot" was the perfect mix of action and intelligent science fiction.
|
For me it was way better than Terminator 3.

I'm going to hold off on this until the 2 disk SE is released

I saw this movie last night for the hell of it. Cant believe it but: it's really not bad. The film taken as a whole is a dodgy and sometimes unconvincing mix of classic science-fiction ideas and Will Smith Hollywood pandering, but the basic story and ideas are very good indeed. Will Smith is VERY good in this and downplays his usual persona even if he does have the occasional quip thrown in("Excuse me....I'm allergic to bullshit"). The uneasy prejudice and anger exhibited in his character from the outset is played well and for once I was actually rooting for him in a movie. Near the end the movie becomes bogged down and overlong and the special-effects in general have that same fake-looking green-screen sheen of the Star Wars prequels, but all in all it's better than I had any right to expect. The initial interrogation scene between Smith and Sonny is awesome. If I were to grade it I'd give it a very solid B. By comparison I'd rate Bad Boys a C, Men in Black II a C, ID4 a D, Wild Wild West an F, Bad Boys 2 an F.

Strangely, I rented it, liked it, and bought it also. I was pleasantly surprised.
I'd give it a 7.0 |
