Best version of A Christmas Carol?
 

anyone know which is the best version of a christmas carol? and which is the best dvd?

The Alastair Sim version...bar none. George C. Scott is the only other one who even comes close to Sim. Forget the rest. By the way, the dvd contains the original black and white and a colorised version, and the print quality is quite good.

In my opinion, the best version of Christmas Carol is the 1938 version with Reginald Owen, and it's not on dvd.

Definitely the Alastair Sim vesion. Also i found it at at a great price at Walmart for 13.50. The reason i think it's a good deal it's because you get the b/w version and the color version. You guys should check it out.

Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol is my personal favorite.

Between Jim Backus, and the wonderful songs....you can't go wrong!

I like the Muppet version with Michael Caine.

My personal favorite version of A Christmas Carol is the George C. Scott version.

I'm also a fan of the Patrick Stewart version. The scene where Scrooge has his first laugh is great stuff.

I personally like the one with Albert Finney...great version and also out on dvd.....

My personal favorite is "Mickey's Christmas Carol." Maybe not the best version, but the version I love to watch the most. I also love the Alastair Sim and Patrick Stewart versions.

As you can see, votes are all over the map. In fact, most versions are sure-fire audience pleasers, if nothing else... Maybe that's why they keep redoing it... :)

The Alistair Sim version is the critic's favorite by a long shot. Whether it will be your favorite or not has more to do with--among other things--whether you enjoy older movies as easily as modern ones, authentic Dickensian dialog or more contemporary talk, a kid's story or an adult story, a musical comedy or a drama, etc...

My favs are the Alistair Sim drama, the Mr. Magoo cartoon, and the Albert Finney musical.

(I didn't see the new TV musical that just aired, but it was supposedly based on the long-running modern Broadway version by Howard Menken, so could be interesting...)

I agree with ZackR. Mickey's Christmas Carol is truly wonderful (and so is Scrooged and Mr. Magoo's). As far as the "serious" film versions, the Sim version is fantastic.

Black Adder's or Magoo's, but I don't think Magoo's is on DVD.

The George C. Scott version is my absolute favorite.
I saw it at Walmart yesterday in their holiday dvd section for under $10.

I like the Alastair Sim and Patrick Stewart versions the most.

The only one I have on DVD is "An American Christmas Carol" with Henry Winkler. I don't know why but I saw this version as a kid and it grew on me.

The 1951 version with Sim is the best, but the 1984 version with Scott is also excellent.

My favorite has always been Scrooge (1970) with Albert Finney, Alec Guinness. My father and I used to watch it every year on TV. They used to edit out the scene where scrooge goes down to hell and is given his chain.Wasnt until I got the dvd a few years ago I was able to see the movie in its entirety.
