IvyLeaguer - Target, once again, has the Special Edition DVD set (packaged with the little mini bobble headed Ralphie). If you like the movie, you'll always have a keepsake of this Christmas classic. And if you hate it, you can always flick the bobble head as you curse those on here that suggested you'd love it too.

Oh yeah, it's my favorite Christmas movie.

Definitely a great blind buy. I've seen it so many times that it's lost just a bit of its original luster, but it's still a fun watch every year. Imagine my surprise and borderline disgust when my girlfriend told me she hated the movie because she had to watch it so many times as a child. Bitch.

Christmas would not be the same if TNT did not play 24 hours of a Christmas story, thats how good of a Christmas movie it is

I believe that Target stores still have the SE packaged with a miniature Ralphie bobble-head doll.

Over the years I got to be quite a connossieur of soap. Though my personal preference was for Lux, I found that Palmolive had a nice, piquant after-dinner flavor - heavy, but with a touch of mellow smoothness.

On the same topic, can anyone tell me how these movies are for blind buys?

The Wizard of Oz
Miracle on 34th Street
It's a Wonderful Life

I'd never heard of them before. I just don't keep up with these obscure foreign art films.

Like yourself, I'm a most UNnostalgic person, which is why I like this film. There is nothing nostalgic or sentimental about it. I mean, I HATE the 'It's a Wonderful Life' type of movie myself, but I enjoy this one. And by all means, get the special edition.

One of the best Christmas movies ever. I'll watch it many times during the season and try to catch most of them on Christmas day on TNT - it's always playing when we're opening presents.

Those are decent films. You need to check them out. Don't forget to also try other obscure films such as Citizen Kane, Gone With The Wind, and The Godfather. Not well known but classics nonetheless.

Truth be told I have never actually seen Citizen Cane, Gone With The Wind, The Godfather and The Wizard of Oz. I do love A Christmas Story and would highly recomend it.

I just bought the SE for my wife. She watches this movie at least 10 times during the holidays.

You practically have to go out of your way to have not seen this movie at some point in the last decade.

My father worked in profanity the way other artists might work in oils or clay. It was his true medium, a master.

Great quote, PixyJunket. How can anyone not like this movie?

Excellent analysis, IMO. Any nostalgia or sentiment generated by "A Christmas Story" is by the recollection of viewer memories... not something in the film itself.

I recently traded in my old version at Blockbuster and ordered the new SE.

Cooincidentaly, I just picked up a real life Red Rider BB gun (Daisy) from WM for my kid. I sure hope he doesn't shoot his eye out.

Both will be opened Xmas eve....

Everytime I see this movie on the shelf I look at the back and see " This film has been modified...blah, blah blah" SON OF A BITCH!! Some day I'll find the SE. Target you say?
