Deadwood.....good blind buy?

First off, I have never seen this show(as I don't have HBO) but I LOVE Westerns and the idea around it. However, someone said it is the most foul-mouthed show on televsion, with the F-Bomb being dropped as many times as in Gigli. Let me ask you, in terms of cussing how does it compare to say....."The Sopranos"? or "Sex and the City"? For one, while I do LOVE "The Sopranos" I think the language can be rather harsh at times. With "Sex and the City" I don't mind it at all, because its all in jest. It's just funny, and not mean-spirited(get my drift?). In any event, can someone tell me about Deadwood.....and how much bad language there is. Thanks!!!!

Well I hate to tell you this but Deadwood makes Sopranos and Sex and the City seem like rated G shows. Deadwood is an excellent show and I am not a huge fan of westerns, but if language is your concern than this is not a show for you. I think they might even have Scarface beat on language use.

has this been announced?

Spoiler:
FUCK!

I think people exaggerate with the amount of swearing. They use the f-word liberally, but the swearing usually was conversational and not really done in an offensive manner.

Anyways, it was a decent show. Some loved it but I thought it was so-so. I still have the last 2 episodes recorded which I still haven't gotten around to watching.

MrTerrific 10-28-04 10:18 PM

If you don't like the word "c*cksucker". Don't watch this show.

wennma01 10-28-04 10:43 PM

$99.99 msp is pretty steep for a blind buy. i'd suggest netflixing it to see if you like it first...thats what i'lll be doing

CarlitoBrown 10-28-04 11:12 PM

It's extremely gritty.

And yeah, c-sucker is uttered at least 100 times.

Get a V-chip, will you. The F-bomb? Just say it.

FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCKF UCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK

see, it's just a word. Nothing evil about it. :p

Besides that, if you want to see pictures of Jenna haze. Doesn't she say "FUCK ME HARD" in any of her videos?

It has a lot of faul language because guess what, those western days weren't as pretty as gunsmoke makes it seem. If they could get away with it back then, they would have shown you how life was back then. Dead wood is a great example on how gritty the life was. Enjoyed it a great deal and if some faul words can concern you, I would suggest to stay away.

So, if you have no problem with cursing, this is pretty good??? I am curious about picking it up too, but I have never seen an episode and didn't want to end up bring home a stinker.

CarlitoBrown 10-29-04 02:17 AM

100 bucks is too much to blind buy something like this. Just rent it and then make your decision. I have OnDemand so I just watched them all that way.

I love the series but there's no way in hell I'm gonna fork over that much for 13 or so episodes.

DeputyDave 10-29-04 03:35 AM

$ 100.00????? is that confirmed? I loved the show and would buy it in a flash for say $50.00, but never for $100. Damn, that's almost enough to make me finally use that DVD burner.

onebyone 10-29-04 07:12 AM

$99.95 is the MSRP. However, it is $69.99 at Amazon right now, and I am sure it will show up cheaper elsewhere eventually. Not all the stores have it up yet so it is hard to comparison shop.

Jackskeleton 10-29-04 03:42 PM

But I would suggest that Blind buying season sets is silly. rent one of the episodes and make your choice. It's a lot better then regreting you wasted 60-100 for a dvd you will never even watch again.

Dalvin 10-29-04 03:45 PM

Jack, what did you think of the show? Anything outstanding?

Where I am, I don't have the choice to rent most TV shows. So blind buying is the only way I get to see most shows.

So, tell us, is it good?

Red Dog 11-01-04 03:54 PM

It is hard to recommend HBO shows on DVD because of the high price point.

I will say this however. I generally dislike Westerns. Deadwood is the first and only Western (on the big or small screen) that I have enjoyed. Fabulous characters. I can't believe that anyone would let cursing get in the way - of course, that's just me. And yeah - if you are offended by the word: c*cksucker, you probably should stick to the Disney Channel.

I believe S2 starts in March. I have to imagine that HBO (or one of the mult-channel HBOs) will rerun S1 in Jan/Feb. I would recommend that instead of buying the DVD.

I'm a little surprised that you wouldn't have a Blockbuster around. They seem to be good with these shows.

surprised no one has mentioned the massive use of the c word.
