Three Colors Trilogy for a blind buy?
 

Just wondering, since I've heard good things and all three films score highly on IMDB. I don't really know much about the movies since I avoid spoilers as much as possible. Is there a good way to tell if I'd like this?

That's a hard question to answer since they're quite different from the average American movie. But after looking at your collection, I'd say there's a good chance you'd enjoy them. It's also an excellent set for the price.

I'd say go for it. You can also check out my collection to get a good idea of the kind of movies I like. That might give you a better frame of reference.

This is indeed a tough thing to say.
The movies are not for everyone. They are the pensive, meditative types. . .with those you can never give a straight "yes" or "no" recommendation.

My advice for you is to do what I did:
Rent/See Blue. I liked it. I figured I ought to go ahead and just order the whole trilogy. I ended up loving all 3 films (I think if you like one, you'll like the others).

If you like it, go ahead and order the trilogy (30 dollars on Amazon, a spectacular deal). The special features are also great.

So see one and then decide how you like it.

My Hollywood had Blue on VHS, so if you have a hollywood near you, call and see if they have it.

Yeah, that's a tough one... The three films are all <i>very</i> good to excellent. But that doesn't mean that you'll like them... I'd go with the advice from theneobez, rent Blue if you can find it and go from there.

I expected to like them, but really don't at all. I seem to be in the minority of my film snob friends, however.

These are the movies that <i>hooked<\i> me on foreign films. <b>BLUE<\b> still amazes me. By far my favorite movie.

These are European character driven films, some quirky humor, mostly of the gallows type. Very thought provoking. There is a melancholic and fatalistic theme running through them, with enough twists to make them unique viewing. I find them very thought provoking, somewhat like the Blues or the haunting nature of Irish ballads. Taste is a unique mind print of each individual, so you will have to make the call. Have you seen the Decaloque collection, by the same director?. If you like that, you will like the Tricolor set. If not sure, rent one first.

I'm a big fan. Definitely a different type of film than we Americans are used to, though.

Three Colours are of my favourite movies, especially Blue. And I'll say this for Blue - it has the best orchestral soundtrack I have ever heard. Just gorgeous.

Whether it is a good blind buy, I can't tell .. it depends so much on individual taste. If you like French movies, I think you'd enjoy them.

let me just say from personal experience i disliked the red. It is really slow. I guess its good in an artsy way and i even apreciate most artsy films but this one just bore me to death
