Ok, I want to buy 2 out of the 4 listed Criterions below. Which 2 do you recommend?

Billy Liar
Diary of a Country Priest
Early Summer
Mamma Roma

I've not seen the others, but I watched Diary in one of my film courses a few years ago, and it's haunted me ever since...

I'd buy Early Summer or Mamma Roma. Priceless supplements on both discs, and excellent films...Mamma Roma being slightly meatier on the supplement side, and having better source materials for Criterion to work with. Diary of a Country Priest is an incredible experience, and an excellent entry into one of the cinema's most profound, difficult masters, but Cowie's commentary on the film is rather weak. The film looks great, though. Its easily my favorite of those three.

Haven't seen Billy Liar, but I understand it to be one of Schlesinger's best.
