I enjoyed The Alamo. Don't watch this one late at night when you are tired!! I did this for 2 nights in a row!! Fell asleep during the "Talking" parts! LOL. In all seriousness, I did enjoy this movie and two big thumbs up to Billy Bob Thorton's performance as Davey Crockett. And I will echo a previous posters comment about the battle at the end of the movie...nice to finally see it!!
I still prefer the John Wayne version as that is what I grew up with! The Duke Rocks!!!!!!:D Take care everyone!! |
I just watched it this morning and I must say that while it wasn't the greatest Alamo film ever made, (13 Days to Glory was actually more entertaining), but it did have some good production values (costumes, sets, f/x), decent acting (great acting by BBT), and finally an on-screen representation of the Battle of San Jacinto. Oh, the sound mix was pretty good. A little lax in the bass, but great envelopment.
Question...did Billy Bob actually play the violin? Because if he didn't, he did some persuading "air violin" action there. Spoiler:

There's no indication that Billy Bob did the playing himself...Unless you know how fiddles are played. |
Billy Bob did indeed play himself...he apparantly learned a whole piece on the violin for the film. This was stated either in the making of featurette that ran on HBO or in an interview for 20/20 or Dateline (or one of those shows) that he did for the film's release. Not sure if it's mentioned on the DVD.
