Purple Rain 20th SE review?
I'm surprised there's no DVD Talk review for the Purple Rain 20th anniversary SE.
I hope I don't have a stinker sitting in shrinkwrap next to me. But I loved this movie, and I'm a sucker for SEs, DEs, AEs, etc.
Any reviews out there?

Under the Cherry Moon just went up. Perhaps Purple Rain is in the queue?
As for having a stinker...if you're not a Prince fan and the DVD besides you isn't Under the Cherry Moon or Graffiti Bridge, you're cool.
I haven't opened mine yet either, but ANYTHING would be an improvement over the first FS release.

I'm a Prince fan, casually at least. Have been since the 80s. Although back then, it seemed kinda weird, being a white boy from the suburbs into Prince. The Purple Rain soundtrack was one of the first cassettes I bought.
I've always enjoyed Purple Rain, but can't recall when I last saw it. I'm surprised the first release was full-screen. This is one of several older movies I've been waiting to get an anniversary/special/directors treatment before buying.
I remember going to see Under the Cherry Moon. Can't remember enough of it to know if I'd like it today.

The featurette on First Avenue is pretty funny.
They make it seem like some type of flashpoint for culture in the city, and maybe it was. But those days are long gone, and now the club is an eyesore that can't book good bands anymore.

I watched it last night. Very nice picture but most importantly the sound is really good. Turn up the volume when you watch this one. The audio makes it seem as if you are in the crowd.

All apologies...there was a mailing problem that took the disc on the scenic route to my house, and it got there the day after I left on vacation.
I get home tomorrow, and will hopefully have the review up promptly - Wednesday evening, perhaps.

We reviewed all three of last week's Prince titles, if anyone's interested - http://filmfreakcentral.net/dvdreviews/princetrio.htm
