Battlestar Galactica

I was reading the dvdtalk review and they mention the picture quality is quite bad. Can anyone confirm this ?

How bad is it, the reviewer says some scenes are worse than VHS !!! surely nothing can be worse than VHS!!

I was hoping to pick this up at some point but am having second thoughts now

i don't think the problem is in the transfer as much as it is in the source, though i can't really figure out what is going on.
there will be a shot that looks crisp and crystal clear, and then the very next shot will be riddled with grain and look seriously harsh, then they will cut back to the same angle as the first shot and the picture looks pristine again.

very odd.

some eps are in general rougher than others, especially some of the early ones that are shot during night on exterior locations.

i've only made it thru half the set, and while its nowhere near as consistently nice looking as something like The Hulk set, its still, on the whole, a decent package if you like the show.
the 'bad' PQ elements are probably about 30-40% of what ive seen so far.
the other 60-70% has looked excellent.
again though, this is inconsistent and quality can vary wildly within the same scene, from shot to shot.

Yeah, it isn't *that* bad. Just inconsistent.

I definitely don't think it's anything to have 2nd thoughts about. This package is one of the few things that Universal has done right lately (ignoring the GIANT Cylon head). Great sound quality, lots of deleted scenes, commentaries, featurettes, etc. It's a great set.

Great, I may pick it up eventually. Im just going to try and finish off my Star Trek TNG and Transformers first, then I will move on to this classic show :)
