How is "The Fog"...good blind buy?

I've seen and passed on this so many times, but like John Carpenter stuff and it kinda seems good...some comments would be helpful. Thanks.

I like it. Not John best work, but a pretty good ghosts flick. There hardly any gore in it but a couple of scene made me jump when I first saw it. Out of five stars, I gave it a three and half stars.

One of my all-time favorites....I would say it is a great blind buy. :)

Like a lot of John Carpenter movies, sounds a lot cooler on paper than it plays in execution. It's okay, but I wouldn't recommend as a blind buy unless you are a die-hard Carpenter completist.

I have not seen this movie since I was a little kid. After seeing it, I went at least a year being scared if I wasn't asleep by midnight. My guess though is that I wouldn't think much of it if I watched it today.

Do not buy it. Trust me. Rent the movie and you will thank me. I never watched it until last year and it did not age well and was truly really slow and very boring. To be honest, I think JC is bigtime overrated and his movies are dumb. The only one I truly love, and I think is a classic, is Big Trouble LC because of Kurt Russell more than JC. IMO.

Well I happen to love the film. Find it very atmospheric & frightening.

Of course others may find it slow boring piece of crap. So depending on your tolerance for certain films. I would say rent the film(on dvd..must be seen in widescreen!) before deciding to buy it.

I thought this movie was great. His early movies are all pretty good.

Just the cinematography alone is worth the purchase.Dean Cundey filmed the movie.

This is sort of my standard reply for such things, but if you like the late 70s/early 80s horror movies, you'll probably like "The Fog."

As long as you're not going into it expecting wall-to-wall action and lots of CGI (like "Resident Evil"), you should be fine.

If you like John Carpenter and Ghost flicks, you will like this one. It has everything mentioned by others in this thread. Highly recommended.:)

Loved it. The autopsy room scene always freaks me out.

Worth it just for John Huston's campfire storytelling .... not the best John Carpenter movie, but one that I always enjoy revisiting.

I bought it blind.... and, I was moderately disappointed. It was really no big deal. I'm a big fan of Carpenter, but I though this one was a little flat.
I found the tension to be a little weak.

I enjoyed it quite a bit, I prefer atmospheric horror instead in your face "boo" scares and this movie was right up my alley. It has been one of my favorites since I first saw it as a kid.

I agree with the above poster, great cinematography. The DVD has a nice documentary on it, as well.

I bought this blind when it first came out, and was very disappointed. I think it was the first Carpenter film that I didn't like. I found the majority of it to be boring
