Johnny Got His Gun... a good blind buy?

Okay so I just finished Dalton Trumbo's book. I thought it was excellent and would like to check out the movie. I'm aware it's only out in the U.S. on VHS. I checked all video stores and none of them had it. So, I'm thinking of purchasing the DVD on eBay. It's around $20, I believe.

Anyways, is this movie any good? How does it compare to the book? Any comments welcome!

TIA

Is that a DVD from another region? Or a bootleg?

It's a decent movie (although the book blows it away), but there's no way I'd pay $20 for a bootleg.

The DVD is from Honk Hong so it is an Asian release. The U.S. VHS version is even more expensive. Hmm, I might have to check flea markets, or maybe just try and find a better deal.

Good links guys, thanks. Man, I wish Critierion would make a release for this film. The VHS is too expensive, and I don't feel like spending $30 for a asian bootleg on eBay.
